Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. (Proverbs 14:34)
We have a society in which God's value system is ignored. Most U.S. citizens claim to believe God exists, but they permit and even promote behavior that is opposite to the will of God.
Men and women lie, cheat, steal, kill and brutally misuse their fellow men, and go unpunished because society is to blame. The husband and father who refuses to support his family is looked upon as the victim.
In our system, the individual is no longer responsible. We blame the environment or any other substitute rather than place responsibility upon the individual. We ignore the fact that God gave each man freedom to think, decide and act, and to live with the consequences of his actions.
It is easier to blame society because when everybody is to blame, nobody is to blame.
Bumper stickers and tee shirts broadcast the frustration and moral decay that has infiltrated humanity. People curse the world because it offers no purpose for their lives. Everyone needs something for which to live, and the world offers only poor substitutes.
Young people look everywhere to try to establish a value system for themselves. Unfortunately, parents are unable to fill that need. They likewise have no value system; therefore, they are poor role models.
A valueless society constantly contradicts itself. Many of the same people who display Save The Whale bumper stickers, support Planned Parenthood. The entire nation watches television breathlessly while an 18 month old infant is rescued from a life-threatening situation. But 19 months earlier they would have turned their heads, not caring if her mother had aborted her.
Every person has a definite image of what a perfect body should look like, but few have direction for their soul. Free from the influence of God's morality, society has fallen prey to the immorality of its own sensual desires.
Where does that bring us, as disciples of Jesus Christ? We could blame the church for pampering its people with watered-down, maternal religion that only suggests godly principles. Blaming the church is like blaming society, it leaves out individual responsibility. We are the church.
Jesus has called us to be His disciples and He expects us to do something. The first thing is to pray. Bumper sticker people are slaves to Satan's deception. The devil has altered public opinion. The humanistic principle of self above all has infiltrated our educational institutions, our judicial systems and our society. The result has emerged upon our bumpers.
In Matthew 16:18, Jesus told Peter the gates of hell would not stand against His church, His body of believers. Our purpose is:
to storm the gates of hell;
to bring good news to the afflicted;
to bind up the brokenhearted;
to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners (Isaiah 61:1).
We can't reason a person into Christianity. Instead, we become role models by becoming better Christians. We appropriate Christ's values so others see that there is a better way. And we pray! The battle is primarily spiritual. God gave us prayer as a means of activating His power in people.
Understanding that, we pray every time we see a humanistic bumper sticker or tee shirt.
* We pray for God to reveal Himself to that person.
* We pray for salvation for the person and his or her family. * We pray for the scales to be removed from their eyes.
* We pray for their spirits to be released from the control of their flesh.
* We pray for God to flood them with His Light so there is no room for darkness.
* We are active members in God's army!
* We put on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18),
* We pray, pray, pray!
Jesus is King!
P.S. What are you doing of eternal value?
Question for today: How often do I pray specifically for strangers?
